This year, POD Print proudly commemorates 100 years of women’s right to vote. Women everywhere have continued the fight for equality in other arenas, including business. POD Print opened its doors in 1978 with a female co-owner, and we currently have a female operations manager. We talked with them about their careers in the traditionally male-dominated print industry.
Paper is so common we rarely think about it. We use it to scribble out grocery lists and print office memos, or we read books of bound paper pages. But how did it come into common usage?
You may have seen the four colors used in commercial printing before: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. This is commonly referred to as CMYK. But why those four colors?
It’s such a common symbol that you may never have thought about the origins of the ampersand, or “&”. You see it in logos everywhere, for companies from Dolce & Gabbana to Ben & Jerry’s, and you’ve certainly used it when jotting your own notes.
But where did it come from?
We all know today’s business cards. Just the right size to fit in a wallet, a way to collect contact information, advertise your company, or sometimes win a free lunch at your favorite diner.
